Hi all,
I’m a smart contract artist and researcher based in Japan. I’ve been looking into the preservation state of Rinkeby testnet for a project, and wanted to surface what I’ve found here in case the community can help.
What I’ve checked
No public snapshot of Rinkeby chaindata seems to exist anywhere I can find — ethPandaOps history endpoints, eth-clients/history-endpoints, blockchain-etl BigQuery datasets, and the major commercial snapshot providers (PublicNode, Ankr, QuickNode, etc.) all carry mainnet and sepolia but no Rinkeby.
Why this matters
Rinkeby was the testnet of choice for OpenSea, Rarible, Manifold, and many others. A lot of experimental NFT and smart contract work happened there before the 2021 boom. From the perspective of Ethereum and on-chain art history, this seems worth preserving.
I understand and respect the deprecation decision. I’m not proposing restoration of the network, only preservation of the chaindata as a historical record.
Questions
- Does anyone here still have a Rinkeby chaindata snapshot on disk, even partial?
- Are you aware of anyone (former Geth team, Infura/Consensys, individual operators) who might still hold one?
- If a snapshot is recovered, are there any concerns from the community about hosting it as a public archive?
Happy to host any recovered chaindata as a public archive — no expectation of any party taking on ongoing responsibility.
Thanks!
