The meeting focused on two Ethereum account abstraction standards: ERC8286 (modular accounts for frame transactions) and EIP8130 (account abstraction by account configuration). Chiranjeev presented ERC8286, explaining how it extends the existing ERC7579 modular account standard to work with EIP8141 frame transactions, introducing new approval modes and validation rules to support the frame transaction framework. Chris presented EIP8130, announcing that Base will launch it in the next fork scheduled for September, describing how it enables account abstraction with cross-chain compatibility through a system of authenticators, actor configurations, and policies, while maintaining performance and security through a tight transaction validation pipeline. The discussion included questions about policy scope flexibility, policy revocation mechanisms, and the relationship between these two competing standards, with participants expressing interest in providing further feedback through Discord channels.
Sam welcomed participants to the monthly AllWalletDevs meeting and announced two agenda items for discussion. The meeting began with waiting for additional attendees before starting the formal discussion, and Pedro was identified as the presenter for the first agenda item on ERC8286 regarding modular accounts for frame transactions.
Pedro and Shiran discussed the significant changes introduced by EIP-8.1.4.1, which makes account abstraction the default for Ethereum wallets through frame transactions. Shiran presented a new standard (ERC-8286) that extends ERC-7579 to enable the creation of smart accounts compatible with frame transactions, including support for approval modes. The standard specifies how frame accounts should be implemented, with a new 8141FrameValidator module that determines approval modes for transactions.
Chiranjeev presented EIP 8141, which introduces a new “frame validate” module type to the existing EIP 7579 module standard for smart accounts. The new module defines how frame accounts would look and work, including approval modes (payment only, execution only, or both) and execution modes (standalone sender frames, atomic batches, multiple senders in batches, or multiple senders in atomic batches). Stavros confirmed the EIP would remain as an ERC rather than being elevated to an EIP, and Pedro explained it doesn’t require changes to smart account functionality since it only adds new transaction types and opcodes. Chris then announced that EIP 8130 will be launched with BASE in the upcoming September fork, and called for community feedback and wallet implementations ahead of the announcement.
Chris presented an overview of the 8130 specification, explaining its key features including authentication through authenticators, account configuration contracts, and cross-chain account functionality. The protocol aims to enable account abstraction features while maintaining performance and security, with specific scopes for sender, policy, nonce, and admin permissions. Chris noted that while 8130 doesn’t currently plan to support 8141, they are monitoring the space for potential adoption. The team plans to announce feedback channels and testing opportunities later in the week, with Chris available for further discussions and questions.
