Protecting the EIP process from special interests + examples & case study

After mulling my involvement over, I feel like I owe the 3074 team an apology for making it personal and questioning their integrity.

There’s a saying, you shall know the seeds by their fruits. I’m not happy with the collateral damage around the 3074 debate. Assuming good faith is easier said than done, but in retrospect I feel like I should have tried harder to disagree in a more positive, community affirming way. That’s something I’ll work on moving forward.

FWIW, in addition to making the discussion unnecessarily toxic and bringing out the worst in everyone, I’ve realized making it personal risks backfiring by making it harder for people to change their mind. People can let go of an idea more easily than they can let go of their reputation, or their social/tribal affiliations. Also, accusing people of being hostiles is a pretty reliable way of summoning hostility, even if it wasn’t there before. It’s self fulfulling in a bad way.

Sorry.
