I see that the caller of the Transfer event is well-defined to be msg.sender. But the motivation for this is unclear. The best hint is:
The
callerinitiates a transfer of anamountof a tokenidfrom asenderto areceiver.
What if a transfer was not initiated by msg.sender? msg.sender might merely be sweeping the result of a previous action. The transfer may be inevitable, and would eventually happen regardless of who msg.sender was. In this case, it could be more helpful for the caller parameter of Transfer to be the operator who initiated the transfer, whether that be the sender themself, their approved spender, or their operator.
Specifically for our case, there are rate-based payment streams initiated and updated by operators. Anyone can ping a stream to pull the balance to the recipient for a previous block of time; this actually emits Transfer. The pinger might be the recipient but it could also be someone participating in the auction. Keeping with the motivation, it would be more useful to supply the operator for this parameter.
