TLDR: I suggest them to drop out schema requirement, leaving in only contractURI method that could be reused by 4824 as dependency and incorporate your idea of having contract address return field.
Regarding schema itself I find it much less important at the moment than the interface standartisation what is nearly impossible to change in the future.
