From my personal experience: took me some time to figure out what fields we were talking to. So a small pointer would be sufficient for a reader to pay attention and understand what those fields are.
If I understand it properly, the choice of endianness is driven by the goal of creating a generic backend, compatible with any domain (welp, this is what this standard is about). In such case, I can only agree with you. Thanks for your response
